Service Provision of Taxi Marshal Services in Derby City Centre
Awarding body Derby City Council
Est. value
£200,000
Description
Derby City Council invites tenders from suitably qualified organisations for the provision of Taxi Marshal services in Derby City Centre.Taxi Marshals have been providing a successful and valuable service for those wishing to enjoy the night-time economy in Derby since 2007. The project has been part of a range of interventions designed to reduce violent crime and anti-social behaviour. They have been instrumental in reductions in city centre crime and have provided a vital link as part of the overall ‘policing’ of the city, linking into the police, door supervisors, the street pastors and the Council’s licensing team.
The aim of the service is to assist the Council and its partners to reduce violent crime and criminal damage incidents in the city centre by marshalled ranks providing both the public and drivers of licensed Hackney Carriage vehicles (taxis) with a safe waiting area during weekend nights for the duration of the service.
The main outcomes from the service should be a reduction in:
• city centre alcohol related violence and disorder
• the number of people arrested for those offences
• numbers of those requiring hospital treatment for alcohol related injuries
• An additional outcome will be effective partnership working between all agencies involved with reducing city centre alcohol related violent crime to show a co-ordinated approach to crime reduction.
